Welcome Fiesta Vibes at the Entryway
First impressions matter, and the entryway to your party sets the tone for the entire event.
We wanted our guests to step into a world of vibrant colors and celebrate the essence of Frida right from the start.
Here’s what we did to create an amazing entryway atmosphere!
Colorful Streamers in the Trees
Using a combination of bright streamers, we decorated the trees outside the house.
They swayed gently in the breeze and added an instant sense of joy (and made for great photo ops!).

DIY Frida Kahlo Poster on the Garage Door
We painted a large poster of Frida ourselves using poster board from the craft store.
Pro tip? Start with an outlined version of an iconic Frida portrait and glue on a faux flower headband filled with lively colors!

Goodwill Pottery and Décor
We hunted local Goodwill stores for authentic-looking Mexican pottery and décor.
The entryway was complete with terra cotta pots, painted vases, and a DIY sombrero wreath for the door for an authentic touch.
The effect was so fun and immersive, and it got everyone excited before they even walked through the door!

Bring the Fiesta Inside with Budget-Friendly Decor
Inside the house, we kept the Frida Kahlo theme alive with bold, colorful, budget-conscious decorations.
Every detail was a nod to her iconic aesthetic with a DIY twist!
Here’s what helped us stick to our theme (and wallet!)
DIY Tissue Flowers Everywhere
Tissue flowers are a Frida party essential.
We made dozens and dozens of them in bright yellows, pinks, greens, and blues.
They were scattered on tables, draped over furniture, put in bushes, and pinned to walls.

Cricut for Cutouts
With a Cricut machine, we crafted beautiful paper decorations that included donkeys, Aztec suns, and floral motifs.
It took time, but the results were worth the effort.

Dollar Store Faux Flowers
We hit the dollar store and found colorful faux flowers that were perfect for creating centerpieces and repurposed our favorite Mexican-designed cans into charming vases!
Combine goodwill finds with these flowers to make every corner picture perfect.

Hand Painted Party Decor
My mom is an incredibly talented artist, and she hand-painted a stunning collection of abstract Frida Kahlo portraits that we used as decorations for the party.

Everything is Better with a Photo Booth
Frida would absolutely agree that selfies are an art form.
That’s why we transformed our movie room into a Frida Kahlo-inspired photo booth.
It was the highlight of the party!
How We Set it Up:
- We repurposed a life-size cardboard box (thank you, work leftovers!) and painted it to look like a Frida Barbie box! With cellophane and everything, everyone loved it!
- We added props like fake unibrows (hilarious!), flower crowns, Frida-style shawls, and even Frida Kahlo’s favorite pets (stuffed) like her monkey & parrots.

Games and Party Favors with a Frida Twist
The real success of a party lies in the fun you provide, and we didn’t hold back on the activities!
Here are the unique touches that kept everyone entertained.
Frida Kahlo Fun Facts
We scattered fun facts about Frida around the party, printing them on cute table cards.
It sparked great conversations and made the event feel more meaningful.

Pin the Unibrow on Frida
A quirky take on the classic party game!
We created a poster-sized image of Frida, blindfolded our guests, and had them try to place her famous unibrow in just the right spot.
The giggles were non-stop.

Painted Cactus Rock Party Favors
These tiny, hand-painted cactus rocks doubled as both décor and adorable party favors!
Each guest left with their own mini masterpiece to remember the day.

The DIY Cantina for Drinks and Conversations
No fiesta is complete without delicious drinks.
For our party, we built a DIY cantina that became the heart of the gathering.
Here’s what we did:
- We created the cantina backdrop using old wood pallets that we painted in fun, coordinating colors. We wrote “Cantina” in Frida-inspired paper cutouts across the top made it extra special!
- A chalkboard drink menu completed the look, showcasing the night’s signature cocktails like Baja margaritas and tasty La Bombas (plus some delicious non-alcoholic options).

Transform Your Space with a Stunning Streamer Ceiling
Every great party starts with making an impact as soon as your guests walk in.
For our fiesta, we cleared out our dining room and turned it into a striking food station area.
The pièce de résistance? That incredible ceiling covered with vibrant streamers tied to our chandelier and stretched out to the walls.
We used over 200 pieces of colorful streamers to create this dreamy effect.
While it took the most time to complete, by far, it also cost us only about $20!
The result was totally worth the effort—we received endless compliments about how magical the ceiling looked.
If you want to try this, here’s a quick how-to:
- Pick 4-6 bright colors to tie into your theme (we went colorful with pink, blue, green, yellow, orange, and purple).
- Cut your streamers into long strips slightly longer than the distance from your light fixture to the nearest wall.
- Tie the streamers to a central hanging point like a chandelier or ceiling hook. Use painter’s tape to attach the other end to the edges of your walls.
You’ll end up with a canopy of festive colors that transforms your space completely!

Create Multiple Stations for a Festive Touch
Food and drinks are at the heart of any party.
To add some excitement (and keep everyone circulating), we set up three different stations around the room.
Taco Station
Filled with tortillas, various proteins, and tons of topping options, this was a DIY lover’s dream.
To decorate, we used bright tablecloths and a mix of colorful paper fans and banners hung behind the station.
Guests could build their ultimate taco masterpiece!

Drinks Station
At the drinks table, we served “cactus juice”, sodas, and aguas frescas in colorful flower glasses with personalized labels.

Salsa Bar (Crowd Favorite)
The salsa bar absolutely stole the show!
We offered different salsa levels, ranging from mild to extra hot, so there was something for everyone.
To make it extra unique, we served individual bags of chips so guests could grab what they needed without any fuss.
One of our proudest touches was adding a star shower projector from Christmas to this area.
It created the coolest light effects, making the salsa bar stand out like a starry night sky in the middle of the party’s buzz.

Add DIY Mexican-Inspired Decor Everywhere
The detail that pulled everything together was our handmade decorations.
We turned our dining room into a mini-Mexico with colorful and playful decor that screamed Frida’s artistic flair.
Here are the key elements we crafted to create this magical atmosphere:
- Hand-Painted Wall Scenes: Using foam board and poster paper, we painted a backdrop of mesas, mountains, and desert landscapes that lined the perimeter of the room.
- Paper Cactus and 3D Tissue Flowers: Our paper cacti decorated the room, and we added gorgeous tissue paper flowers in bright hues. Talk about a pop of color!
- Cricut Cutouts: Using our Cricut machine, we made dozens of intricate cutouts of Mexican symbols, pueblos, and desert critters to tie it all back to the theme. These were perfect as wall decor, table accents, and photo booth props.
Together, these elements transformed the room into a Frida Kahlo-inspired dreamscape, making everything feel artistic, fun, and inviting.

Transform Your Dessert Station into a Vibrant Masterpiece
First things first, the dessert table is the centerpiece of any great party.
For our Frida Kahlo fiesta, we gave the dessert station the spotlight by making it as colorful as Frida’s famous works of art.
Here’s how we pulled it off!
Decor That Pops with Color
Imagine dozens of bright tissue paper flowers in vibrant hues like magenta, turquoise, and sunflower yellow adorning the dessert table.
They added texture, dimension, and a true fiesta vibe!
We layered multi-colored streamer curtains as a backdrop to amplify the effect.
The best part? These decorations are not only eye-catching but budget-friendly and fun to make.

Delicious & Easy DIY Desserts
No party is complete without delicious snacks, and we really went all out for this one!
Every dessert was fun to make, even better to eat, and kept our guests coming back for more.
Here’s a breakdown of the fan-favorites from our fiesta table.
Fruit Pizza Cookies
Start with sugar cookie bases, then stack them with vanilla frosting and a rainbow medley of fresh fruit.
Think kiwi slices, strawberries, and blueberries!
Vanilla Wafer “Taco” Cookies
Who doesn’t love tacos—even dessert ones?
We cut vanilla wafer cookies in half, filled them with frosting, and topped them with colorful sprinkles to imitate “taco fillings.”
These delightful mini-tacos were a hit, especially with the kids.
Cactus Cupcakes & Mustache Cupcakes
Bring some whimsical touches to your party desserts with themed cupcakes!
For our cactus variety, we topped cupcakes with green frosting swirls piped to mimic cactus shapes, and added a dusting of graham cracker crumbs for that desert vibe.
Mustache cupcakes, meanwhile, were decorated with candy mustaches—we couldn’t stop laughing at how cute (and delicious) they were!

A Frida Kahlo-Inspired Sheet Cake
The showstopper of the dessert table was our Frida Kahlo party portrait sheet cake.
We used an edible cake topper from Etsy to transform a simple sheet cake into a true work of edible art.
It featured Frida’s iconic floral crown and bold brows, capturing her essence perfectly.
The cake added an elegant and playful nod to her legendary style, especially on a DIY tulle cake stand with lights!

The Crowd Favorite? Churro Cupcakes!
While every dessert was a star, our churro cupcakes were the undeniable hit of the party.
Inspired by the classic Mexican treat, these cupcakes were soft, cinnamon-spiced perfection with a dollop of creamy frosting on top.
We even added a cinnamon-sugar dusting for that authentic churro vibe.
But we didn’t stop there!
To make them even more memorable, we printed out photos of our friends and family, popped them into sombrero-themed cupcake toppers, and used them to decorate the cupcakes.
The result? SO many laughs and selfies with personalized cupcake toppers.
Guests couldn’t get enough of them!
Handmade, fun, and ridiculously tasty, these churro cupcakes added a personal touch that made everyone feel like they were a part of the celebration.

Why This Party Idea is Worth Trying
Hosting a Frida Kahlo-themed fiesta is more than just a party; it’s an immersive, creative experience that celebrates art, culture, and togetherness.
From the vibrant decor to the ridiculously yummy desserts, every detail is an opportunity to share joy, laughs, and unforgettable moments with your guests.
The best part?
Everything on this list—from the colorful tissue flowers to the mustache cupcakes to the churro toppers—is simple enough to DIY.
It’s amazing how a little preparation and creativity can transform your space into fiesta heaven.
Happy Celebrating!
